Wayne worked with the Puhoi community to secure the Puhoi River Park - across the Puhoi River. This special local landscape would otherwise have become a housing development that would have spoiled the 'face' of Puhoi. Wayne has helped communities throughout the North Shore and Rodney.
Pakiri is a special place; a jewel in Auckland's crown. Wayne and John have stood up on Council for special places like Pakiri, Te Arai, Puhoi, Weiti, Okura and Muriwai and many coastal communities like Jamiesons Bay - to make sure these icons are protected. Their commitment and concern goes far beyond their own area.
The North Harbour Stadium is the best place for a swimming pool for Albany. The location is convenient, there is parking, it is economical and public. The stadium area can become a hub for events, entertainment and sport with its excellent public transport connections.
It is important that the Regional Parks like Long Bay are given the special attention they deserve - not simply lumped in with smaller local reserves. We support the retention of the Regional Parks Network and intiatives like the Shakespear Open Sanctuary pest proof fence and the work of the Great Park Society to extend Long Bay Regional Park.
Liquor bans are an important tool for police to keep communities safe. Wayne and John pushed for the extension of liquor bans to local beaches like Stanmore Bay, Manly, Arkles, Red Beach and Orewa. They have proved very effective with widespread support from residents.
Our beaches are among our most important assets. They are the jewels in the crown of the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast. At Little Manly Wayne led a successful campaign that saved the beach from an unsightly development right on the beachfront among the coastal pohutukawas.
